Rescuers Locate Helicopter 2 Kilometers Away

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian escaped unharmed after the helicopter they were traveling in made a hard landing in southern Iran on Sunday.

The incident occurred as the helicopter was carrying the two officials from Iran's border with Azerbaijan to inaugurate a joint dam project. Rescuers located the helicopter from a distance of some 2 kilometers (1.25 miles) after sunrise on Monday, according to the head of the Iranian Red Crescent.

The apparent crash of the helicopter sent shock waves around the region, as Raisi, 63, is a key figure in Iran's political landscape. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
